Myth, Mystery, & Magic in India: The Exotic South
January 8 to 21, 2016
The myth, mystery and magic of India are nowhere more present than in the South. Southern Indian arts and customs, less influenced by the trappings of tourism, are mesmerizing to visitors. Public ritual and private devotion honor a pantheon of gods and goddesses that are depicted in intricate temple-carvings and dramatized in lively dance performances. Travelers will experience the spirituality expressed in The Santa Barbara Museum of Art’s 2016 exhibition Puja and Piety: Buddhist, Hindu, and Jain Art of India, while within its home country. This custom-crafted, one-of-a-kind itinerary is designed specifically for SBMA Members.
