Visitor Service Associate - Part-time

Make a difference integrating art into the lives of people. The Santa Barbara Museum of Art presents internationally recognized collections and exhibitions and a broad array of cultural and educational activities. We have an immediate opening for a dependable individual with excellent communication and customer service skills to join us in providing an inviting experience for the Museum’s visitors. Your duties will include greeting visitors, providing information about the Museum’s exhibitions, hours and events, collecting admission fees, selling memberships, collecting visitor surveys and assisting in the museum shop. Requires High School diploma or equivalent and excellent public relations skills. One to three years previous cashier experience preferred; knowledge of or interest in art/art history desirable. Requires some holiday or weekend hours when the Museum is open to the public.

  • Schedule: varies from 20 to 29 hours per week
  • The position reports to the Retail & Visitor Experience Manager
  • Salary is $12.00/hour with partial benefits; paid time off, holidays, 403b eligibility

Assistant/Associate Registrar – Full Time

The Santa Barbara Museum of Art presents internationally-recognized collections and exhibitions and a broad array of cultural and educational activities. The Collections Department

The Santa Barbara Museum of Art has an opening for an Assistant/Associate Registrar (title determined by experience level). The Assistant/Associate Registrar will report to the Senior Registrar and assist with registration of the permanent collection, temporary exhibitions, incoming and outgoing loans, and new acquisitions. Job duties will include: generating forms such as receipts, loan agreements, and insurance certificates; examining artwork and preparing condition reports; coordinating packing and shipping for local, national, and international shipments; handling and moving artwork and determining proper housing and storage. Additional duties required as needed. Must be able to work at a busy pace, multi-task, have a flexible working style and a good sense of humor; and have good problem-solving skills and ability to work well in a team and also independently. The Museum has an active program of temporary exhibitions and a growing permanent collection of approximately 27,000 objects including paintings, sculpture, photography and works on paper, and is about to begin a multi-year renovation project that will involve moving and rehousing most of the collection.

Requirements include: BA in Art History or Museum Studies; at least three years registration experience in a permanent, full-time paid position; verified experience and expertise with collections management software (preferably TMS), including creating records, location changes, and running queries and reports; demonstrable experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint); ability to lift up to 50 lbs. on an occasional basis and up to 25 lbs. frequently. Experience with contemporary and Asian art collections preferred.

  • The position reports to the Sr. Registrar.
  • Full-time, regular, and non-exempt status.
  • Salary is DOE and the position is eligible for full benefits.
